About the Talako Indian Dancers:

The Talakos are a non-profit youth organization devoted to sharing American Indian culture through dance all over Central Florida.  The group, as pictured above, is made up of families proud of their Indian heritage.  Founded in 1986, the Talakos have now given over 2000 performances and have received many awards.  Past major performances include the following:

Brooksville Heritage Days

bullet

Fruitland Park City Festival

bullet

Lake Wales Heritage Days

YMCA Parent-Child Events

bullet

Brevard Children's Festival

bullet

Ocoee Founders Day Festival

Talako appearances are funded by donations from sponsoring hosts in an amount necessary to cover our travel expenses - mileage and meals.  Some sponsors help with funding by providing free booth space for our Indian arts and crafts sales tent.  Many items sold are inexpensive and appropriate for children.

To Join the Talakos:

Parents!  If you live in the Orlando, Fla, area, we invite your children - and you - to join the Talako Indian Dancers Family Club and become part of an organization dedicated to the sharing of Indian culture and dance with the community - while having a great personal experience!

The Talako Indian Dancers give performances all over Central Florida for festivals, pioneer days, schools, and youth events.  All parents serve on the Board of Directors.  Boys and girls ages 10 to 17 are encouraged to join whether they have Indian heritage or they are very interested in Indian culture.  Parents are encouraged to dance alongside the youth members.

New members are taught dancing, craftwork, and Indian history and culture.  They have opportunities to participate in some important traditional Indian ceremonies.  Expenses for the dance regalia and travel to the shows are covered by the club.  Meetings are held weekly at the home of Bill and Sallie Prentiss in southwest Orlando.
